What is EverydayProtect?

EverydayProtect is a personal accident and hospitalisation insurance policy underwritten by MetLife Europe d.a.c. It is designed to give you financial breathing room when life takes an unexpected turn — by paying you a tax-free* cash lump sum on qualifying events such as broken bones, UK hospital stays, serious accidental injuries, and accidental death.

It is not private medical insurance: it does not pay your medical bills directly. Instead, it pays you — which means you can spend the money on anything that helps you recover, from making up lost income to childcare to renovating your home for accessibility.

You choose between 1 and 5 units of cover at sign-up. The more units you buy, the higher the monthly premium and the higher every benefit pays out — so you can scale cover to suit your circumstances. Add optional Child Cover to protect your kids, and optional Active Lifestyle Cover to protect against the soft-tissue injuries most common in contact sports.

*Based on current UK tax legislation, which may change in the future.

Why people choose EverydayProtect

From £11 a month

Core Cover starts at £11/month for 1 unit. Add more units (up to 5) for higher payouts, or stay at the entry level — your choice.

No health questions

Guaranteed acceptance for UK residents aged 18 up to their 65th birthday. No medical underwriting, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions on accident cover.

24/7 worldwide

Cover applies anywhere in the world, around the clock. On the pitch, at the office, on a flight, or asleep in bed at home.

Multiple claims

Claim as many times as you need — your premium won’t go up. Getting older won’t change it either (other than a 50% benefit reduction from your 70th birthday).

Sport-friendly

Most hazardous sports are included as standard. Add Active Lifestyle Cover for protection against ACL tears, dislocations, and tendon ruptures.

Cancel any time

Monthly rolling contract — no annual lock-in, no early-cancellation fee. Stop paying, stop cover. Two-minute application to start.

Who EverydayProtect is for

EverydayProtect is built for adults whose lives don’t pause for a broken arm. If a few weeks off work would put your finances under pressure, this is the policy for you.

Sports players & active people

Whether you play 11-a-side at the weekend, run marathons, or train at the gym five days a week — EverydayProtect covers you during sport, not just on the way to it. Add Active Lifestyle Cover for ligament tears, dislocations and tendon ruptures.

Self-employed & income-dependent

No sick pay, no safety net? A broken wrist or a week in hospital can mean weeks of lost earnings. EverydayProtect pays you cash directly — no claims-paperwork involving an employer, no waiting for occupational schemes to kick in.

Families with children

Add optional Child Cover for protection that covers all your children aged 6 months to 18 (or 23 in full-time education). Includes children’s cancer cover. Kids don’t need to live with you to be covered — useful for separated families.

What’s covered

EverydayProtect is structured around one required policy (Core Cover) plus two optional add-ons (Child Cover and Active Lifestyle Cover). Choose 1–5 units of cover at sign-up — every benefit scales with your unit count.

  • Broken bones — up to £5,000 per broken bone (major fracture, 5 units). Cover is paid per bone broken, even if you break more than one in the same accident.
  • UK hospital stays — a cash benefit per 24-hour period of admission. Up to £250/day at 5 units. Sickness hospital cover starts after 12 months on policy.
  • Accidental death — up to £200,000 lump sum at 5 units, paid to your nominated beneficiary.
  • Total permanent disablement — up to £250,000 at 5 units if you can no longer look after yourself due to an accidental injury.
  • Permanent injury — defined lump sums for loss of limbs, sight, hearing, speech, or use of major joints.
  • Optional Child Cover — broken bones, hospital stays, permanent injury, accidental death, and children’s cancer cover. From £2/month extra.
  • Optional Active Lifestyle Cover — dislocations, ligament tears, tendon ruptures. From £2/month extra.

Every policy also includes three free value-added services: GP24 (24/7 virtual GP for you and your family), the Wellbeing Support Centre (counselling, advice and mental-health support), and Virtual Physiotherapy from 19 June 2026 — six 30-minute sessions a year with tailored exercise plans, provided by HealthHero.

EverydayProtect FAQs

How much does EverydayProtect cost?

Core Cover starts from £11 per month for 1 unit, up to £55/month for 5 units. Optional Child Cover adds £2–£10/month and optional Active Lifestyle Cover adds £2–£10/month depending on units chosen. Maximum monthly cost with every option at 5 units is £75/month.

Are there any health questions?

No. EverydayProtect is guaranteed acceptance for UK residents aged 18 up to their 65th birthday — no medical underwriting, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions on accident cover. Your premium does not change based on your medical history.

Am I covered during football, rugby or other sports?

Yes. EverydayProtect covers you 24/7 worldwide, including during sport. Most hazardous sports are included as standard — the only notable restrictions are around motorsports and some timed events. Football and rugby are fully covered, and the optional Active Lifestyle Cover add-on (from £2/month) protects against the most common contact-sport injuries: ACL/ligament tears (grade 2 and grade 3), dislocations, and tendon ruptures (Achilles, hamstring, quads, rotator cuff).

What happens if I make a claim?

Claims are handled by MetLife directly on 0800 917 0100 or customerservice@metlife.uk.com. Your premium does not increase if you make a claim, and you can make multiple claims under the same policy. Dragonfly Crowd can help guide you through the process if you prefer.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. EverydayProtect is a monthly rolling contract — no annual lock-in and no early-cancellation fee. Cancel any time.

Can I add my children to the policy?

Yes. The optional Child Cover add-on (from £2/month extra) covers all your children aged 6 months to 18 years (or up to 23 if in full-time education). Children do not need to live with you to be covered, and Child Cover includes children’s cancer cover. The maximum payable under Child Cover for any one event is £5,000 per unit.

Is EverydayProtect the same as private health insurance?

No. EverydayProtect is a personal accident and hospitalisation cash-benefit policy, not private medical insurance. It pays you a lump sum on covered events — it does not pay your medical bills directly. You can spend the money on anything: income replacement, household bills, recovery support, childcare, or just peace of mind.

How quickly does my cover start?

Accident cover starts immediately from the policy start date. The only waiting period is for hospital admission due to sickness (not accident), which is covered after the policy has been held for 12 months.

Does it cost extra to apply through Dragonfly Crowd?

No. Our advice is completely free — we are paid a commission by the insurer, which does not affect your premium. Whether you apply directly or talk to us first, your monthly cost is the same.

Important information on policy terms

The bullets below summarise policy terms that are worth being aware of before you apply. Full details are in the Policy Terms & Conditions and Summary of Benefits, which take precedence over the information on this page.

  • Active Lifestyle Cover — 12-month re-qualification. If your policy with Active Lifestyle Cover is cancelled or terminated for any reason and you then buy a new policy, you will not be covered for the Active Lifestyle Cover benefit on the new policy for 12 months from the date the original policy was cancelled. This applies even if the new policy also has Active Lifestyle Cover — worth bearing in mind if you’re thinking of cancelling between sports seasons.
  • Sickness hospitalisation waiting period. Hospital admission due to accident is covered from the policy start date. Hospital admission due to sickness is covered only once you’ve held the policy for at least 12 months (Child Cover: 12 months for sickness or self-inflicted injury).
  • Active Lifestyle claim limits. Active Lifestyle Cover can pay a benefit for one dislocation, and one tendon rupture or grade 3 / grade 2 ligament tear, per policy year. Dislocations are covered only where they result in surgical intervention or manipulation in a hospital setting; dislocations of fingers, thumbs and toes are excluded.
  • Benefit reduction from age 70. Core Cover and Active Lifestyle Cover benefit amounts are reduced by 50% from the policyholder’s 70th birthday.
